FEMALE BALLERS UNITE
INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY EVENT
MARCH 7, 2021
As many of you may know the month of March is dedicated to celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. However, gender discrimination is still present in most sports, with female athletes more likely to have lower salaries, fewer sponsors and little to no media attention.
To show our support for women in sports, we decided to throw a free all girls skills clinic. We selected 8 girls from across the city, aging from 9-15 years old, who share a serious passion and dedication to improving their game. The two hour skills clinic consisted of a shooting session, using the Dr. Dish shooting machine - in which they put up a total of 700 shots in 50 minutes. The second hour was focused on ball handling and attacking the basket using shifty combos, put together by the "Handle Goddess" herself Coach Binky. The girls worked hard and the talent across all ages was impressive - the future of Canadian Women's basketball is very bright.
A special THANK YOU to Competitive Sports Academy for opening up their beautiful facility to host this event. As well as our Foot Locker, MackHouse and PRNTSBY5, who hooked the girls up with some great swag bags to take home. And finally to our co-founder, Coach Ashley, for bringing this idea to fruition and bringing such amazing likeminded people together to execute the vision. We hope to host more clinics in the future, if you are interested in attending send us an e-mail to get more information. #HERTIMETOPLAY
